Photo featured in F8 #1

China Punk picture featured in F8 magazine – January 2011
I was excited to learn that one of my photos (part of my China Punk series) was featured in issue #1 (January 2011) of F8 magazine as part of a feature on 52Selects.com. You can see the whole issue of the magazine--it's beautiful!--at issuu or on the F8 website. Expect more news about my new partnership with 52Selects in the coming weeks, too.

We Chinese on Metafilter
The launch of We Chinese has gone well over the past week. There's been little press, word-of-mouth on twitter, facebook, and elsewhere has pushed the project to around 15,000 pageviews. There have been a few mentions on relatively big blogs, I'm proud to report, last week: Photoshelter, Photojournalism Links, and Metafilter. Thanks to Grover, Mikko, and smoke, for the support!

Announcing We Chinese – a new project of street portraits and interviews

Portraits from We Chinese
I've just launched the website for my latest project, We Chinese. The project features 100 street portraits of people accompanied by short interviews with them about their country and their future. The response to the project so far has been overwhelmingly positive and I'm currently looking at opportunities to push this work to a larger audience through exhibitions or publication. Head over to http://www.we-chinese.com to see the whole project.

2010 Pictures of the Year

I’ve posted my favorite pictures of the year here in the Recent Work section of the site and also on dvafoto.

China Punk linked on MetaFilter

China Punk linked on metafilter
I've been a paid member of MetaFilter since 2005 (really, that just means I paid $5 once, just like the other few hundred thousand registered members), and it's been one of my major sources for news and information for even longer. That's why it's a particular honor to have my work, China Punk, linked in a front page post on the site in a broader post about the punk music scene in China. Thanks to dubusadus for the link.

Flattr’ed by Luceo Images

Luceo Images blog
I joined flattr about a month ago as an experiment; Other photographers have joined the service as a way of generating small revenue from fans. Now, the good folks at Luceo Images have chosen my work, China's Crowded Railways, for their first monthly flattr bar tab giveaway. My admiration goes out to Luceo for their efforts to support other photographers, and I'm honored to have been a recipient of some of that support. In that month, I've received about 40 other flattr clicks, ranging from a few cents to a few dollars apiece. The viability of micropayments as a funding source for photography remains to be seen, but everything's got to start small.
